Quilt Along DUTCH POSTCARD WEEK 18 Last week!!!
Deze week is de laatste week! Nu de Zaanse huisjes en de molen.
Let op! Bij de molen is het je naar de tekening een stuk dat zogenaamd achter het huisje valt (links v.d. molen). Dat stuk is fictief, alleen een stukje van de wiek valt op de stof van het huisje. Aan de rechter kant komt 1 inch bij. Ik heb daar stuk water gemaakt. Als deze blokken klaar zijn kun je alles in rijen naaien en aan de quilt vastzetten. Op pagina 2 van de informatie vindt je het overzicht. Dan mag je alles in elkaar gaan zetten en dan komt de klus van het sandwichen en quilten. Veel plezier!

This is the last week! The last of the Zaans houses and the windmill.
Please note! At the mill you see a piece that supposedly falls behind the house (left of the mill). That piece is fictional, only a piece of the wick falls on the fabric of the house. On the right side, 1 inch is added. I made a piece of water there.
When these blocks are finished it is time to assemble. On page to of the instruction you find the layout.

MISSING PART week 15 Border 7 Green House FPP
Bij het patroon van het groene Amsterdamse huis in week 15 is een stukje van het fpp patroon afwezig. Je kunt dit makkelijk oplossen door onderaan een groene strip te maken om de lengte van 8,5 inch te krijgen. Ook mogelijk om boven een stukje wit te maken. Hieronder staat het PDF met het stukje erop.
In the pattern of the green Amsterdam house in week 15, a piece of the fpp pattern is missing. You can easily solve this by making a green strip at the bottom to get the length of 8.5 inches. Also possible to make a piece of white at the top. Below is the PDF with the missing piece on it.

In Week 9 naaien we de blokken van border 3 aan elkaar en naaien al de 4 zijdes weer aan het vierkant. Daarna nog een rand van 2.5 inch dat is border 4. Voor een aantal een rustige week want die hebben border 3 al gemaakt.

In week 4 maken we de 4 Flying Geese blokken en de strippen van blokjes. Handig is om hiervoor scraps te gebruiken zover dat mogelijk is. Je hebt hier ook weer een PDF met FPP en een PDF met traditioneel en de template voor de strip, maar gewoon de liniaal gebruiken is veel makkelijker en sneller. Veel plezier!

In week 4 we make the 4 Flying Geese blocks and the block strips. Use scraps for this as far as possible. There is here a PDF with FPP and a PDF with traditional and the template for the block of 2,5 by 1,5 inch, but just using the ruler is much easier and faster. Have fun!

Week 3 begint met de 2,5 inch border ( border 2) en dan 4 hoekblokken van border 3. Bij dit laatste kun je ook weer kiezen of je het FPP wil doen of traditioneel. Wat wel veranderd is, is dat er nu geen Word documenten zijn met de informatie, maar dit ook op PDF wordt aangeboden. Dit omdat niet iedereen Word op zijn/haar pc heeft. Op facebook onder QuiltThings NL is nu ook een groepspagina gekomen waar iedereen zelf vragen kan stellen, tips kan geven en natuurlijk je voortgang delen d.m.v. een foto. Dat laatst vindt iedereen heel leuk! Veel succes weer. Let op! Als je de border 2, de 2,5 inch strip maakt zonder de hoekblokken moeten deze wel langer worden dan 28,5 inch!

Week 3 starts with the 2.5 inch border (border 2) and then 4 corner blocks to start border 3. You can choose whether you want to do the FPP or traditional. ATTENTIE - ATTENTION - ATTENTIE - ATTENTION
Voor iedereen die begonnen is. Graag aandacht voor het volgende.
Ik krijg melding binnen dat mijn informatie te onduidelijk is. Dit heeft vooral te maken met de maten. Ik heb maten globaal in de informatiebladen gezet, maar het verzoek is oom ze bij de templates te zetten. Ik heb nu alle templates met toeslag voorzien van maten. Dus voor het traditioneel quilten en needle turn applique, omdat deze toeslag gebruiken. Voor de templates FPP en raw edge heb ik dat niet gedaan. Bij FPP omdat je soms meer nodig hebt dan alleen een lapje met toeslag. Bij raw edge weet je dat je aan beide zijden 1/4 inch aftrekt. Teken je op vliesofix, dan meet je het patroontje van te voren niet en trek je het zonder toeslag over. Dit is de eerste keer dat ik iets ontwerp, maar ontwerpen en uitleg erbij schrijven zijn 2 verschillende dingen. Dit is dus voor mij een goed leerproces. Schroom dus niet te mailen als je er niet uit komt. Ik waardeer het!
For everyone who started. Please pay attention to the following.
I receive a message that my information is too unclear. This mainly has to do with the sizes. I never put sizes on the templates I only write about in in the information. So to makes things more clear, I will put sizes on the templates with seam allowance. So for traditional quilting and needle turn applique you will see sizes. For the templates FPP and raw edge you will not. Why not. For FPP you need sometimes more than the size on the paper, specialy when they have oblique lines. And for raw edge, you draw the template on fussible web, So if you need to know how big, it is the template with sizes minus 1.4 inch on both sides.
I hope things are more clear now. This is the first time I designed something. Making it is completely different than writing about it. So this is for me a very good learning process, so don't hesitate to send me a mail if you have questions. I do appriciate this!

Wat heb je aan materiaal nodig?
Als je handquilt heb je minder gereedschap nodig als dat je deze quilt met de naaimachine maakt.
Ik heb een overzichtje gemaakt van wat ik zoal gebruikt heb. Er zullen zeker zaken op staan, die jij anders doet of ander materiaal gebruikt. Heb je een tip, dan hoort iedereen dat graag!

Pen, potlood.
-
Krijtpen, Sewline of een ander merk, Frixtionpen (gebruik ik het meest) of een wateroplosbare pen.

Schaar, rolmes, linialen.
-
Naalden, spelden.
-
Vliesofix.
-
Papier om te printen, ik gebruik ook 120 gr. papier voor het Engels Paper Piecing. Dat is stevig genoeg. Dit kun je ook gebruiken als mal op de stof. Het is net dik genoeg dat het kunt gebruiken om om te trekken.

Vellen voor FPP, ik gebruik fun-dation.

Garen: daar heeft iedereen zijn smaak in. Ik gebruik voor al het naaiwerk op de naaimachine altijd gebroken wit polyester. Voor alle raw edge applique gebruik ik de kleur van de stof (ook polyester) en zet alles met een kleine zig zag vast. Ik gebruik hetzelfde gekleurde garen bij het EPP of bij needle turn applique.

De liniaal voor FPP.

Een lichtbak is handig.
Naast alle informatie en templates zal ik ook kijken of er tutorials te vinden zijn op you tube. Die voeg ik er iedere keer bij, handig als je er even niet uitkomt.
What kind of material do you need?
If you hand quilt, you need fewer tools than you do with the sewing machine. I have made an overview of what I have used. There will certainly be things on it that you do differently or use different material. If you have a tip, everyone would like to hear it!

Pen, pencil.

Chalk pen, Sewline or another brand, Frixtionpen (I use the most) or a water-soluble pen.

Scissors, rotary cutter, rulers.

Needles, pins.

Fussible webbing.

Paper for printing, I also use 120 gr. as paper for English Paper Piecing. That's sturdy enough. You can also use this as a template on the fabric. It's just thick enough that it can be used to ouline.

sheets for FPP, I use fun-dation.

Yarn: everyone has their taste in it. I always use off-white polyester for all the sewing work on the sewing machine. For all raw edge applique I use the color of the fabric (also polyester) and fix everything with a small zig zag. I use the same colored yarn with the EPP or with needle turn applique.

A light box is useful.

Quilt Along DUTCH POSTCARD
Over Stof
Zondag 1 oktober gaan we beginnen!
Iedere week, op de zondag, zet ik een stukje van de quilt op deze site. Als een word document met de beschrijving en de pdf's zijn de templates.
Maar wat heb je nodig?
Het is, je wil het geloven of niet, voor het grootste gedeelte een scrappy quilt. Dus ga kijken in je stoffen voorraad wat je zou willen gebruiken. Misschien is het je nog niet opgevallen, maar als een stofje op was of ik had te weinig, ben ik op zoek gegaan of ik niet iets anders kon gebruiken. De achtergrond is wit, maar het zijn allemaal verschillende lapjes. Ik gebruikte altijd al veel wit, dus ik had van allerlei quilts veel restjes over.
Dan heb ik Delfts blauw gebruikt, dat is lastig vinden, maar ik ben oh zo benieuwd hoe de quilt wordt als je bijvoorbeeld een fan van batik bent en daar veel stof van hebt. Of wat denk je van Kaffe Fasset stoffen, Dutch Heritage en zelfs traditionele quiltstoffen kunnen een heel mooie quilt maken.
Wat heb je nodig aan stof..................pfff, dat is mijn minst favoriete onderdeel. Want tjonge ik had pas een workshop fpp gedaan toen ik met deze quilt begon, dus er ging weleens wat mis. Dus dat kostte weer stof. Hoe jammer ook, ik heb er zoveel van geleerd. En daar gaat deze quilt ook over.
De lol van het leren, het maken en met elkaar delen en daarom is hij gewoon gratis. Dus ik hoop zo dat jullie dat plezier ook ervaren.
De stoffen:
Van wit en blauw heb ik het meeste gebruikt. Dat komt ongeveer neer op 3 meter. En als je heel goed kijkt heb ik met die blauwe randen gespeeld, juist omdat ik niet wist of ik zou uitkomen.
Ik heb effe stof gebruikt met een bijbehorende kleur met een werkje. Van ieder stofje ( 7 effen en 7 met een werkje) ongeveer 2 fat quarters. Let op! FPP kost vaak wat meer stof.
Waar kun je in Nederland terecht.
Nanno Creative heeft de serie Botanical Blues. Ik heb de serie gezien en is erg leuk om te gebruiken voor deze quilt1 Maar ze heeft daarnaast ook nog andere leuke stofjes.

Daar kwam ik van de zomer Delfts Blauwe panelen tegen, die heb ik als kleine stukjes broderie perse gebruikt, maar ze heeft nog meer Delfts blauw.

About Fabric
Sunday October 1st we will start!
Every week, on Sunday, I will put parts of the quilt on this site. As a word document with the description and the pdf's are the templates.
But what do you need? It is, you want to believe it or not, for the most part a scrappy quilt. So go look in your fabric stock what you would like to use. Maybe you haven't noticed it yet, but if I ran out of fabric or I had too little, I started looking to see if I could use something else. And the background is white, but they're all different pieces. I always used a lot of white, so I had all kinds of fabric left over.
Then I used Delft blue, which is difficult to find. But I am oh so curious how the quilt will be if, for example, you are a fan of batik and have a lot of fabric in stock. Or how about Kaffe Fasset fabrics, Dutch Heritage and even traditional quilt fabrics All these can make this a very beautiful quilt.
What do you need in terms of fabric.................. Phew, that's my least favorite part. Because boy, I had only done one fpp- workshop when I started this quilt, so sometimes things went wrong. That did cost me some fabric. But as unfortunate as it is, I learned so much from it.
And that's what this quilt is all about. The fun of learning, making and sharing with each other and that's why it's just free. So I hope you experience that pleasure as well.
The fabrics: I used the most of white and blue. That amounts to about 3 meters. ( is a bit more than 3 yards). And if you look very closely, I played with those blue borders. Just because I didn.t know if I had enough. I used fabric with a solid color and matching fabric with a small pattern. Of each fabric (7 plain and 7 with a pattern) about 2 fat quarters. Note! FPP often costs a bit more fabric.
In the Netherlands there are many small quilt shops and also many webshops. You just can't compare that with America and Canada, where the fabrics are also cheaper.
To what extent you can find Delft blue I just don't know. I know you can find some on Etsy. Recently released is Botanical Blues and otherwise there are many series of blue and cream. Moda has a lot, you could take a look there. And of cause the shops you buy or order yourself.

Quilt Along DUTCH POSTCARD
Voordat je gaat beginnen, wat algemene informatie. Ik noem mezelf een doorsnee quiltster die vorig jaar een quiltbee is begonnen. Door die groep kwam de vraag om een B.O.M.
Dat leek me leuk om te maken en nog geen half jaar later vond ik het bedenken zo leuk dat ik dacht, wat als ik een quilt along maak.
Nou, dat is gelukt. Soms met vallen en opstaan, maar eigenlijk ging het nog vrij snel. Ik heb er heel veel van geleerd en heb de smaak te pakken.
Maar ik moet wel zeker een paar mensen bedanken. In eerste plaats mijn quiltgroep, anders had dit niet hier gestaan. Natuurlijk ook familie en vrienden, die misschien dachten dat ik een beetje gek was (maar zij kennen het quiltvirus niet).
Ook Rianne van Nanno Creative bedank ik, want die heeft me heel wat feedback gegeven!
Toen ik tijdnood kwam, ben ik naar Elly Prins Machinequilting in Zoetermeer gegaan om de quilt te laten doorquilten. En wat heeft ze mooi werk geleverd!
Quilt Along DUTCH POSTCARD
Before you start, some general information. I call myself an average quilter who started a quiltbee last year. Through that group came the request for a B.O.M. That seemed like fun to make and within six months I liked what I was doing so much that I thought, what if I make a quilt along.
Well, I did it. Sometimes with trial and error, but actually it went quite quickly. I learned a lot from it and got a taste for more.
But I definitely have to thank a few people. First of all, my quilting group, otherwise this wouldn't have been here. Of course also family and friends, who may have thought I was a bit crazy (but they don't know the quilting virus).
I also thank Rianne from Nanno Creative in Druten, because she gave me a lot of feedback! When I ran out of time, I went to Elly Prins Machinequilting in Zoetermeer to have the quilt quilted. And what a beautiful job she has done!

This Quilt Along is for everyone who wants to participate!
It is a medallion quilt measuring about 77,5 inches by 77,5 inches.
On this page you will find information and templates that you can download. After 21 weeks the quilt will be complete.
It is a quilt for hand quilters and for machine quilters.
If multiple techniques are possible for a block, I will show them all by means of description, templates and YouTube videos for support.
I hope everyone enjoys making it as much as I enjoy designing it!

Het is een quilt voor handquilters en voor naaimachine quilters. Als er meerdere technieken voor een blok mogelijk zijn, dan zal ik ze allemaal laten zien d.m.v. beschrijving, templates en YouTube filmpjes ter ondersteuning.
Ik hoop dat iedereen er net zoveel plezier van heeft in het maken, als ik in het bedenken!
